Census 2000 data indicate a substantial increase in the number of foreign born among the total U.S. population; this finding has prompted an intensified focus upon the study of the U.S. foreign-born population. As part of this development, the Bureau will release a set of Profiles in mid-2004 that is specific to the foreign born. These Profiles, which will be analogous to the currently available Demographic Profiles (DPs) for the total population, will feature data related to the demographic, social, economic, and housing characteristics of the foreign born. This poster presentation will focus on these findings for Massachusetts, highlighting select characteristics from the foreign-born Profiles and comparing across several types of groups: native and foreign-born populations, naturalized U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens, recent and earlier migrant arrivals, and various countries of birth of the foreign born.
